UFC Live 6 Gambling Odds: Dominick Cruz vs Demetrious Johnson

Dominick Cruz (18-1) still has a way to go before he becomes an MMA betting household name like the other UFC division champions, but headlining a UFC Live fight card on free television against Demetrious Johnson (10-1) this weekend should help his cause.

Cruz is one of the best fighters pound-for-pound in the world and the UFC would like to turn him into a fighter that can command the big pay-per-view numbers the way the other division champions can. He will be coming off a tough title defense against Urijah Faber this past July and will be heavily favored this weekend against Johnson.

Oddsmakers at the Bodog Sportsbook currently have UFC odds on a successful Cruz title defense set at -525. Cruz has excellent striking and wrestling skills, and his cardio is some of the best in MMA today. On paper he should dominate this fight regardless of where it goes, but as we all know when it comes to MMA matchups on paper are not always a good indication of how a fight will play out.

Johnson will enter the Octagon against Cruz looking for his first MMA world title. He is currently on a four-fight win streak and will bring a strong wrestling pedigree with him Saturday night. Johnson will most likely look to control where the fight is fought and try to use his ground-and-pound skills to become the new Bantamweight champ.

Oddsmakers at the Bodog Sportsbook are offering a generous UFC odds payout of +325 on the Johnson upset. If “Mighty Mouse” has the speed to take down the champion he will have a good chance at a decision victory, but if Cruz is able to stuff his takedown attempts it will be a long night for Johnson.
